Battlestar Galactica, of course, showed the same unevenness during its run. The early seasons were fantastic, and it hit incoherence and failing ratings during its middle seasons and the long gaps between, only to rally in the end. Of course, fans are divided as to whether Battlestar Galactica's finale was epic or epic fail, which seems to be the case for any self-contained series when it finally ends.
Speaking of Alexandra Quick (see what I did there?), I'm still writing apace, but I'm having to strangle my self-editing impulses. At chapter 17 and 101K words, I'm at about the half-way point, and my chapters are full of unnecessary scenes. There's also tons of dialog I write and then think "This should go in chapter ten" or something I drop in and know that I haven't laid enough groundwork previously. And plot holes I'm still trying to work around. So basically, situation normal. Goal: finish the complete rough draft in (foreseeable future), then go back and edit.
