AQATWA: cutting room floor material

Constance Pritchard
Wrote almost a thousand words today, but I don't know what I'm going to do with it. (Too long-winded, infodump about the history of the Ozarkers.) It was supposed to be a story about Troublesome, and trying to write an authentic-sounding folk tale from a fictional culture loosely based on a real one is really hard.

So anyway, I kept writing even though I'm pretty sure it's going to get chopped.

re :
Would you consider releasing it as a one shot for us starving AQ fans if it doesn't fit in the storyline. I think it would be cool reading and for us to understand the ozarkers a little more....there are all those nuggets you've been planting about them since book two...and I'm. Intrigued.

Shorten it if needful, but DON'T cut it. Us needs to know the Troublesome prophecy to know what's going on.

I love writing folk tales for my fictional cultures, it's so much fun! I wrote one loosely based on Aristophanes' speech on love from Plato's Symposium for one story, and I have no idea how or even if I'm going to use it.

I don't think a person should ever feel guilty or like they're wasting their time for writing something like that, even though it might not make it into the final draft. I mean, even if you're the only one who ever sees it, it's bound to clarify stuff in your head about the culture you're writing about, right?

Nah. That ain't canon.

Troublesome Prophecy is vital to the Story. We need to know it in Text, NOT in interview.

I cite the Martin precedent: Max is gay in Text versus Dumbledore is gay in Interview.

You COULD pull stuff out of Uncle Bilius' a** and write the Story any which way you like. BUT so far, you have written a believable story within the World Building premises duly extablished.

That is why we squee!

I've got lots of author-canon that isn't going to make it into the books, though. :P

Then it aint't canon. And as long as it is just fun facts, Houses, birthdays etc, then fair enough.

Troublesome Prophecy is NOT fun-fact, it is vital to the Story. We need to know it in text.
